A good suit jacket should follow your lines and hug your body. For most people, this may mean buying a size smaller than they’re used to, and in all cases it requires a knowledge of your body type and a conscious search for properly cut suits. Some people complain about tight-fitting jackets, but unless you’re James Bond, you won’t be doing acrobatics wearing a suit. Think of the restricting fit as a constant reminder to stand up straight, keep your cool, and behave like a gentleman. And if there’s something on the ground that needs to be picked up, feel free to allow those worse-dressed to deal with it.

The best new show this season, with the coolest opening titles since Daniel Kleinman. Bear McCreary’s “Chance” theme is television music at its best:

After introducing the hero with a lone horn, the theme punches into a series of interwoven layers, each one a memorable motif, that recalls the grand action movie themes of the past three decades. Punctuated by McCreary’s relentless taiko drums, the music quickly upshifts and builds into a sweeping, bombastic fanfare, ending with three triumphant beats that reflect the melodic patterns and Morse Code-like ostinati that pepper the whole piece. The only other time I’ve heard such thoughtful, meaningful television music was in Battlestar Galactica, scored by- you guessed it- Bear McCreary.

And tonight’s season finale? Just perfect. Coming on the heels of Monday’s heartbreakingly disastrous 24, tonight’s HT renewed my faith in action television.
